30.04.2026Genetic Consultations moves to the Careum Hochhaus

New location from 1 June 2026 at Plattenstrasse 10 in Zurich.

The Genetic Consultations of the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University of Zurich is moving from Schlieren to the newly renovated Careum Hochhaus in Zurich’s university district. As of 1 June 2026, outpatient genetic counselling will be located at Plattenstrasse 10, 8032 Zurich, on the 1st floor.

The move marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Genetic Consultations service. The attractive premises provide a modern, professional environment for caring for patients with medical-genetic questions and open up new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

After around two and a half years of renovation work, the Careum High-Rise was officially inaugurated on 18 November 2025. The former nurses’ residence of University Hospital Zurich has been transformed into a modern place for work and exchange in the fields of education and health.

The central location and modern infrastructure create ideal conditions for connected, patient-oriented medicine", says Prof. Anita Rauch, Director of the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University of Zurich.

Genetic Consultations are aimed at individuals and families with suspected genetic disorders requiring further investigation, as well as those with questions about hereditary diseases, genetic risks, and other medical-genetic issues. Referring physicians will also benefit from the more central location and improved accessibility.

The move only affects the Genetic Consultations.

The Institute’s Genetic Diagnostics Laboratories will remain at the Biotechnopark, Wagistrasse 12 in Schlieren.

The new location is very easy to reach by public transport. The Platte tram stop, served by lines 6 and 8, is located directly next to the Careum Hochhaus. Alternatively, the location can be reached via the Kantonsschule stop on line 9 or Hottingerplatz on line 3, followed by a short walk.
Due to limited parking availability, travelling by public transport is recommended.
